The Wikipedia defines procrastination in the following way:
“The act of replacing high-priority actions with tasks of low-priority, and thus
 Turn Off Your Inner Critic!!
putting off important tasks to a later time.” I wonder how often we label something procrastination and beat ourselves up when it’s something totally different. There are many reasons we as human beings put off doing things and these reasons may not have anything to do with procrastination.
What if what we are putting off is because of a belief or judgment we have about ourselves or the task?
What if what we are putting off is not congruent with who we are an not in alignment but rather something we think we need to do that really is not moving us closer to what we want?
What if what we are delaying is simply in the realm of do do . . . we do live in a society that values doing . . .
What if what we really “should be doing” is Being?
Wikipedia also had this interesting piece about procrastination:
“Schraw, Pinard, Wadkins, and Olafson have proposed three criteria for a behavior to be classified as procrastination:
it must be counterproductive, needless, and delaying.”
When you put your story about how you procrastinate through this filter have you met all three of these requirements? If you have I would ask you to look at each and ask yourself the following:
Who thinks this is counterproductive? Is this a judgment?
Who thinks this is needless? Is it really needless?
What am I delaying by this “procrastination” and why?
What would happen if you looked instead at everything you have done and you patted yourself on the back and said good job? How would your life be different if you stopped beating yourself up for what you think you need to do and started aligning you doing with being?

One of the signposts of a raise in consciousness is the shift in awareness from being identified with the stories of what’s happened to you; being the victim of others, circumstances, and events, to being the observer of life without taking the events of that life personally.
Eckhart Tolle speaks of this shift in his book A New Earth. He says, “Awakening is a shift in consciousness in which thinking and awareness separate.” He goes on to describe this as a process in which the new state of consciousness gradually flows into and transforms everything we do and becoming fully integrated into our lives.
This shift then moves the process of thought to being a servant of awareness. Tolle defines awareness as “conscious connection with universal intelligence”. Presence is another word that can be used to describe this state, “consciousness without thought”.
I remember about 5 years ago attending a workshop with a fellow who held himself out to be an expert in this area. He enjoyed taking people into a meditative state and during that experience would ask for a show of hands for how many participants reached a state of no thought. He would then say that those who dared show their hands were mistaken because we could not experience a state without thought.
From his viewpoint and level of consciousness this was his truth. That’s true for all of us. Truth is largely governed by our level of consciousness and angle of view. In this example, when this happened I felt less than. I had given my power away to this guy and didn’t realize it. It was more important to me in that moment to be accepted and to agree to his reality. I was measuring my value and my consciousness by an external reference; his approval. Fortunately my reference point is now internal and is not affected by the response or reaction of others to me.
If you think about a particular experience or event in your past, you may see that what it looked like then and how it looks and feels now are a bit different. Sometimes the charge remains and any charge we have, whether it be a judgment about something or someone or a bad feeling from an experience we have had, that charge will forever interfere with our rising vibration and consciousness. Disabling the charge is essential to our personal development and growth.
For each of us raising our vibration and embracing the shift in consciousness from taking things personally to being the observer are both a journey and a choice. We can facilitate or speed up the process by identifying and using Consciousness Shifting™ to eliminate the obstacles to this and the charges from past insults or events, or we can enjoy the journey in slo mo (slow motion). Dr. Joe Vitale say the universe likes speed and so do those of us who have embraced our consciousness shifting process!

I often reflect on the turning points, learning and understandings that have impacted my life in profound ways. I will always be grateful for an insight I gleaned from Thomas Leonard years ago while attending a Coachville conference.
The insight that I took away from that conference is the distinction between possibilities and opportunities. This distinction is important because every day we are bombarded with choices, and options. This distinction profoundly changed forever the way I evaluated the options before me.
Possibility in this context is another word for “coulds”. “Coulds” are the things we have the choice to act on. We can also define “coulds” as ideas. We often have lots of “coulds” and feel that we must do something with them or about them. Thomas Leonard made several observations about “coulds” in his e-class series entitled Absence Of You:
- “The word ‘could’ is the past tense of can.”
- “A ‘could’ is something you can do but don’t have to do.”
- “’Coulds’ are a series of things you could do.”
At that time, my “could list” was getting longer every day. I was living in do-do land and the illusion of what could be. I was dabbling in too many things, and did not seem to have the time for what was important to me. I was lacking focus and attention for those things that were most important to me and I was being distracted by the stories of possibilities. The cost of living in the illusion of possibility was very high.
Opportunity on the other hand is something you are drawn to naturally. There’s passion and purpose and it’s less effort to embrace. When you are embracing true opportunities there is an ease and flow that is a natural evolution to this process.
I began living and choosing from a perspective of making the distinction between possibility and opportunity. Things fell off my to-do list and life became less complex and complicated.
Further refinements to the process came later, as I reordered my “to do” list in the following categories:
- Do it (because it moves you closer to your desired end result)
- Do it later maybe (this is the collection place for ideas you don’t want to forget and are not ready to dump. This list provides a way for you to remember so you do not have to commit brain power to this activity).
- Delegate it (We all do some things well and other things not so well. Delegating is a great way to get things done that is not your strong suit and free time up for the things that are your strengths.)
- Dump it (This is where all those coulds, possibilities and stories about should have go!)
Now I routinely ask myself the following two questions on a regular basis:
Is this a possibility or an opportunity? As Thomas had said in the Absence Of You program, “There’s a wide gap between potential "(possibility)"and reality and it takes time/energy/investment to convert potential into reality.” Opportunities in contrast are based in reality. Much of the time, energy and investment have already occurred. We have 3 sources of power in our lives, our time, our money and our energy or life force. If we use these power sources in pursuit of possibility instead of focusing them on opportunity, it’s like swimming against the current.
The second question I like to ask myself is the following one:
Is this choice moving me closer to or further away from my desired end result? Every choice we make moves us closer to or further from what we desire. What will you choose?
With love and gratitude,
Karen

Congruence is defined as coinciding, agreeing or being in harmony. It is an essential element of the process of intention and co-creation. Often we can be 100% resonant with our intentions and still not experience the full manifestation of them.
There can be a variety of reasons for this. In order to fully manifest what we desire, we must live consciously from a place of non-attachment, non-judgment and non-resistance. We must also be congruent.
Is there a place in your life where you’re attached, judgmental or resistant?
Judging
The idea or thought that the timing must be in a certain time frame is one of being judgmental. When we have judged the timing we may decide that because it has not happened, it won’t. When we have time limits on our intentions we often give up on the intention before it manifests physically. Formulating intentions that are based on our goals and desires is a good practice. Being present to what is, requires that we not attach a timeline to when it manifests or give up on the intention because it did not happen in our time.
Being Attached
Having an attachment to what the manifested version of the intention is often another barrier to manifestation. When we have a position with regard to what this is going to look like, we limit our options and may not recognize the manifestation if it appears in another form.
Resistance
Have you been congruent in taking actions and holding beliefs that supported manifestation of your intention? If some of your actions and beliefs do not support fulfillment of the intention, you are not fully congruent. Ask yourself a question. “Which of my actions and beliefs did not support the fulfillment of this intention?” This question opens the door to amazing awareness. The shortest distance between two points is a straight line and often this question will reveal several places where you may be holding back. You may also notice some limiting beliefs that no doubt have created resistance along the way.
There are lots of folks out there with remedies for manifestation. You can buy hypnotic products that are touted to clear your barriers to manifestation and co-creation. The bottom line is that no matter how many tapes, programs, seminars, workshops, teleclasses, e-courses, coaching programs you participate in, without congruence your results will be marginal at best. Why settle for less than you desire and deserve?
Are you congruent . . . walking your talk . . . mind and body in total agreement . . . fully resonating with what you believe?
Our Consciousness Shifting process is very effective in identifying and shifting limiting beliefs, negativity and resistance. The process involves going to deeper levels than most techniques reach. We identify the circular logic patterns that are tied to the limited beliefs. The fear based patterns cannot be eliminated by subliminal programming or hypnosis. They cannot be stopped by tapping although your attention can be diverted away from the pain.
These are the patterns of immobility. Once identified, these patterns can be easily erased using the consciousness shifting process. It doesn’t take a lot of time, and it’s simple and elegant. Our goal in sharing this work is to support you in being the best you can be in the shortest period of time. The process can be applied to any aspect of life from relationships to abundance, from money to peace.
When you have a plan that includes inspired action and you are congruent with your intentions, you will easily move beyond the areas of resistance.
With love and gratitude,
Karen

I have been thinking lately about second chances. Second chances happen in many, many areas of our lives and they also happen in the lives of our loved ones. By second chances, I am referring to something that changes in us when we decide we will no longer tolerate the status quo. We have to be ready to leave the comfort and familiarity of what’s known or the idea of a second choice becomes an exercise in sameness.
Second chances can also happen when we turn that corner in life and our priorities change. We determine the most important thing is to be of service and to be happy. The external reference to gadgets and widgets and external signs of success and status now take on a secondary importance as we become internally referenced. There is an essence or a feeling that is now the underlying motivation and reason for being.
Some of the opportunities that we have in life for second chances have to do with love, career or perhaps reinventing ourselves and bringing forth our genius. We each have a gift that’s ours to share with world. Unfortunately, many of us never get past the hidden determinants of behavior that can hold us hostage and prevent us from bringing our gifts through our being.
Second chances can also happen in relationships or marriage. When we can truly be in the moment and free of worry about the one we are with, we have a second chance to experience love from a deep, connected and whole way of being. Recently, I realized that I was holding back in this area. After finding the limited beliefs I had taken on and using the powerful process of Consciousness Shifting to eliminate these hidden determinants of behavior, I found myself free to allow a fuller and more connected relationship with the man in my life. What specifically changed for me was the need for him to show up in a particular way. I was able to let go and be without any expectations or assumptions and that was yummy!
Second chances happen for animals as well. There’s an incredible population of adoptable dogs in shelters across the United States. I became aware of this when I began working with a new client a few months ago. This client had founded a nonprofit organization to spread the word and provide a variety of training and support information for adoptive parents and their canine companions. (Check out www.rescuemedog.org to learn more.)
These fantastic animals have arrived at shelters for a variety of reasons;
- the death of person taking care of them
- the divorce of their caretakers and loved ones
- loss of a home due to foreclosure
- perhaps they’ve been lost
- or they’ve run away from a less than appealing home environment
- or their owner didn’t choose consciously prior to taking a dog home and surrendered it to a shelter when they realized being a canine parent was not for them
The point is there are literally thousands of fantastic dogs, pure breed and mixed breeds, all sizes and temperaments available at your local shelters, and waiting for that second chance.
The assumptions we make, and the expectations we hold, color our perceptions in every area of life. They become hidden determinants of behavior. The pathway to second chances for us and for dogs in shelters is the same. A shift in our consciousness is required. A shift in the collective consciousness is required. When we challenge our assumptions, beliefs, perceptions, and expectations and choose to live in the moment, enjoying what is, we change the way we experience every aspect of life. We get a second chance!

I received an invitation a few weeks ago to attend a live web based event that Oprah is offering. Oprah, and Eckhart Tolle, on of my favorite authors, are teaching an online class about his book, A New Earth. I love this book and read it when it first came out in 2005. I learned so much from it and it literally changed my life and gave me new understanding about the consciousness shifting process that I had sourced and consider a sacred gift and why it works.
Of course I registered for the web event. Oprah’s Live Web Event is called Get ready to be awakened! I love that! Anyway the call begins on Monday March 3, 2008 and is 10 weeks long. I have included a link here in case you want to sign up and join the others who are participating.
Reserve your seat now!
Anyway what does all this have to do with my title, Consciousness Shifting and the “pain-body”? It’s simple really . . . consciousness shifting is a process that can quickly identify the patterns of the “pain-body” and disable them so the pain body is no longer driving your experience of life.
As Tolle explains in his book, A New Earth: Awakening to your Life’s Purpose, “Any negative emotion that is not fully faced and seen for what it is in the moment it arises does not completely dissolve. It leaves behind a remnant of pain.” He goes on to say; “The remnants of pain left behind by every strong negative emotion that is not fully faced, accepted, and then let go of join together to form an energy field that lives in the very cells of your body.”
In consciousness shifting language we say the negative emotions that have not been completely sensed (using the sensory capacity of the body), accepted and let go, cause reactive patterns and patterns of immobility. Fortunately, the gift of this process enables us to find these complex patterns and erase the cellular memory. We can even change past memories with this gift but that’s a story for another time.
We teach our clients how to fully use the sensory capacities of the body and how to use the body as a compass. Sometimes, we find a need to use the consciousness shifting process to clear the fear about accessing full sensory capacities of the body and that is easily shifted. When you know how to use your body as a compass to navigate the choices of your life, life becomes a whole lot more fun. And we like to have fun.
You know . . . if it’s not yummy, don’t do it!
With love and gratitude,
Karen
