Wholeness is all of something and what may look like one thing can often be another.

It’s like a coin; one side is heads and one side is tails; together they are the whole coin. if you view one side you do not see the other unless you turn the coin over.

Earlier this week I was having lunch with one of my good friends and we were talking about time and creation. My friend shared that she was planning to knock it out of the park with her vision for 2012. She’s planning her vision board and big business goals too!

Ok, that’s great, but what about the remaining 8 months of 2011? Plans and goals are a good thing and we must also be present to this moment and bring our attention here.

Everything is happening in this moment; That’s where the magic is!

I suggested that she listen to the replay of a recent free tele-class I offered on my 5 Secret Strategies to End Procrastination Forever. (http://www.karenvizer.com/5strategies )

My friend replied that procrastination was not her problem, her challenge is constantly doing. We call that living in do do land!

Years ago when i studied macrobiotics my teacher shared about how when you look at the back of a hand you see one view of a hand and if that is the only view you have ever experienced of a hand you would not recognize a hand from a different view point such as the palm view.

Procrastination is like that too! We focus on what we have not done and call it procrastination. Living in do do land, running on that Hamster wheel of life as fast as you can is the other side of the procrastination coin.

Either way you don’t get to move closer to what you want.

You just keep doing or not doing!

Are you delaying your good as my friend was, by saying in 2012 I am going to __________________, (you fill in the blank)?

What about now?

I offered some great tools and strategies in my free tele-seminar and you can get those too and shift the other side of procrastination when you do!

Here’s the link:

Boldness has genius and power and magic in it.”

The Wikipedia defines procrastination in the following way:

“The act of replacing high-priority actions with tasks of low-priority, and thus

Turn Off Your Inner Critic!!

putting off important tasks to a later time.” I wonder how often we label something procrastination and beat ourselves up when it’s something totally different. There are many reasons we as human beings put off doing things and these reasons may not have anything to do with procrastination.

What if what we are putting off is because of a belief or judgment we have about ourselves or the task?

What if what we are putting off is not congruent with who we are an not in alignment but rather something we think we need to do that really is not moving us closer to what we want?

What if what we are delaying is simply in the realm of do do . . . we do live in a society that values doing . . .

What if what we really “should be doing” is Being?

Wikipedia also had this interesting piece about procrastination:

“Schraw, Pinard, Wadkins, and Olafson have proposed three criteria for a behavior to be classified as procrastination:

it must be counterproductive, needless, and delaying.”

When you put your story about how you procrastinate through this filter have you met all three of these requirements? If you have I would ask you to look at each and ask yourself the following:

Who thinks this is counterproductive? Is this a judgment?

Who thinks this is needless? Is it really needless?

What am I delaying by this “procrastination” and why?

What would happen if you looked instead at everything you have done and you patted yourself on the back and said good job? How would your life be different if you stopped beating yourself up for what you think you need to do and started aligning you doing with being?

When you think about time what comes to mind? If you are like the hundreds of people I have talked with about this subject recently you may feel that it’s a limited commodity and very elusive.

The Free Dictionary defines time in this way: A nonspatial continuum in which events occur in apparently irreversible succession from the past through the present to the future. This seemingly ordered sequence is something I have struggled with in the past and something that is misunderstood as well. We live in a culture that values doing and as as a result we have reduced time to something most of us do not have enough of. Our lives become filled with activities and doing that are not congruent with the meaning and connection to life that we so deeply desire.

Time is energy, and we are experiencing new planetary energies that are calling us to be peaceful, present and productive. So, how do we balance these energies to the point of knowing that we have enough time for everything we value and live from that perspective?

Recently I conducted a survey that asked the participants what was important to them. The answers were surprising to me because they signaled a shift in consciousness and awareness towards a more spiritual perspective.

Six months previously the results of a similar survey were focused more on money and generating income.

This time the top 3 priorities identified were:

Valuing Self, Spiritual Growth, and Getting Things Done.

The interesting thing is that these were rated within 2 points of each other in this order and these three were identified by 80% of the survey respondents as their most important focus. As I began to think about this I saw that time was a common energy underlying each of these priorities. Each of these priorities require time and each is connected to the others by underlying beliefs about time.

Many of my recent conversations with both clients and friends have been centered around not being able to get things done and feeling like days flash by without being able to accomplish the goals and targets that they have set out to achieve. Even some who have been highly productive in the past seem to be having a bit of a challenge now. They feel like they are putting in a lot of time and getting nowhere.

I know that feeling because I felt that way too. I was working too hard and at that time, I did not have the tools I needed to change that. The old “Time Management” paradigm and it’s associated skills are not working as well as they used to because time no longer works as it did in the past. We are being called to be present in this moment of now!

Slow Down To Go Faster

The new time requires, according to my friend Sunie Seventhheart, the ability to slow down to go faster! Sunie shared this with me about a year ago and I have been playing with this concept and have found that it’s absolutely true! This may seem a bit counter intuitive but it really is a concept that’s working very well for me these days!

I have learned how to make time my trusted friend and valued business partner and you can too! When you do you will have a much richer and fuller life.

Some of the benefits of making this shift are:

Increased Peace

More Time

Less Overwhelm and Worry, (I rarely have either of these anymore)

Increased Confidence and Trust

Deep Appreciation of your Value

A Deeper Connection to your Spirituality

Clarity about What’s Most Important to You

An Increased Capacity to Be Present

The End of Procrastination

More Productivity

What would your life and world be like if you accessed this power too?

Here are 5 Tips for Making a Shift in Your Relationship to Time

2. Set a Timer for 10 minutes and journal about all of your beliefs about time, just let the words flow out of you without judging them. When the timer goes off stop breathe and then look at everything you have written and ask yourself the following questions: Is this really true? How do I know this is true? What if this is no longer my truth, how would my relationship to time change?

3. Whenever you are considering taking an action, ask yourself is the choice I am making moving me closer to what I want or further from it? If it’s not moving you closer reconsider.

Once listed see how you can group them together in categories and then ask yourself what one action could I take that would eliminate many of these?

5. Remember to BE in appreciation and BE in gratitude for the time you have as well as the other good in your life!

The Incompletions Coma

2010 has been a very quiet year for me in many ways of growth, vision, connection to source, deeper levels of self discovery and inquiry about what’s important to me! Congruence and Connection are high values and that congruence and connection is for me, to me, and to the source energy that I am, and that we all are.

Recently I have become aware of the power of what I am calling the “Incompletions Coma.”

The Incompletions Coma is a way of being that you may have taken on consciously or unconsciously. It shows up in every area of life and is often driven by the lizard brain’s desire for sameness and comfort. Because there is no place that source isn’t, it’s important to look at this from a loving perspective rather than the energy of make wrong or beating yourself up.

Awareness always precedes change and this is something I have chosen to change in my life as we are in a time of completion, closure and embracing our birthright of freedom. To do this is takes clarity, focus, commitment and congruence all working together like magic! It’s time to finish what you’ve started so that you are free from the past.

My good friend and mentor Sunie said recently; “The past was not built to last!” It’s time to let go and “Go For IT” Whatever it is! Don’t look back because everything is for you! The time of either/or is gone- the belief of for and against is no more.

As I embrace that awareness and understanding, the deeper reality emerges that in this moment everything is perfect! And anything I choose to do to clear the clutter and distractions, eliminate the energy drains of tolerations and the perceptions of imperfection of the past enables me to be more present and engaged in this moment.

It’s time to release the past as it was never built to last!

That’s where I am choosing to live. I have been inspired to share my journey with you and to offer year end mentoring so that we can all be more connected to our core, essence, joy and freedom in the New Year. All is one and one is all and it’s time to BE FREE!

These lyrics from Bye Bye Birdie sum it up nicely . . .

Oh, Life’s a ball if only you know it

And it’s all just waiting for you

You’re alive, So come on and show it

We’ve Got a lot of livin’ to do!

So How Does the Incompletions Coma Show Up?

There are a few ways that I have noticed it showing up in my life and/or the lives of others. Here are some of the signs that the incompletion coma state of being has a hold on you:

You say you want something; a relationship, job, more money, peace, to complete something but you never seem to get to that place or manifest that desire. It feels like it’s outside of you and you will get to it some day.

You keep adding things to do and your to do list keeps growing and you have many things on that list that have been there for a VERY LONG time.

There’s an underlying belief or story you are embracing perhaps unconsciously that goes like this . . . I can’t do this because . . . or I will do that when . . . Both stories are of lack and limits rather than abundance and freedom.

You have tied your beliefs or sense of what’s possible for you to the belief that you need the money first. This was a particularly challenging shift for me to make and I must say one of the most powerful ones I have embraced.

You fear consciously or unconsciously that you will be cheated or ripped off. This shows an underlying distrust of yourself and your capacity to make choices that are congruent with your well being.

You feel Confused and are not sure what action to take next. It’s difficult to make decisions either because you have so many options you don’t know what to embrace or you’re not clear on your options.

You are not sure what you want and you may not believe you could have it if you did get clear about it.

Ultimately the Incompletions Coma keeps you playing small and chasing things that are not important to the overall manifestation of the peace and freedom we all desire. The good news is that you can have what you want and you can have it now! You are free!

Completion allows the space for freedom, joy, peace and more of the good that is yours!

It is my desire to be free, and to experience freedom and joy every moment of every day. The increased energies and frequencies are calling to me and have inspired me to create what I am calling the . . .

A reptile is controlling you! I know it’s hard to believe but really it’s true. The lizard brain as I like to call it, or reptilian brain, always wins until you learn how to tame it.

You see the lizard brain is all about survival; it’s heavily invested in activities like:

Eating
Attacking
Running away from danger
Surviving
Limiting
Planning Revenge
Getting Sex

This brain is all about fight/flight, polarity, it’s do or die. It’s purpose during earlier times was to save your life, and it’s great for life and death situations; it’s just not so good for daily living.

The lizard brain prevents you from taking risks, it stops you from being the boldest, brightest, bravest, most outrageous, most authentic, and transparent expression of who you really are.

It limits you.

The lizard is what makes it difficult to do what we say we want to do. It’s what keeps New Years’ Resolutions from sticking. It is a real part of your brain and this part is known as the amygdala.

It’s hard to stay quiet and ignore the lizard . . . but you can learn how to do it . . .

When you do, your lizard can become a great asset, as you learn to navigate the waters of life that your lizard has been controlling.

You will no longer need to appease or please the lizard.

The lizard brain shows up and wields its influence in a number of ways.

See if you recognize any of these:

You say you want one thing, but your actions are not aligned with that desire.

You say you want to be successful, but you never finish the project that would create success for you.

You say being healthy and fit is important to you, but you do not take actions that contribute to your health and fitness.

You have a great idea for an invention or product that would add value to a certain group of people, yet you never get

past the start-up phase.

You say you want to lose weight, but you are unconscious about what you eat.

Some of us have a lot of never ending conflicting intentions, while others only have a few . . . and in all of these there’s one common denominator besides you. Do you know what it is?

It’s the lizard!

One of my favorite writers is Seth Godin. Seth often writes about the lizard and in one of his recent blog posts he had this to say:

“The lizard is a physical part of your brain, the pre-historic lump near the brain stem that is responsible for fear and rage and reproductive drive. Why did the chicken cross the road? Because her lizard brain told her to.”

The lizard brain has a job to do. Its job is to keep us limited, and to that end, it has taken on the role of social survival strategist, remembering the times we looked bad or foolish in a social situation. The lizard brain is not known for its ability to utilize critical thought. In the world of the lizard brain, things are polarized and it’s never the lizard’s fault.

Whenever resistance is showing up in your life, it’s likely that the source of the resistance is the lizard itself. Resistance is the voice, the inner critic that tells you all the reasons why you cannot do something, and gives you all the excuses why it won’t work.

One of the key observations of the lizard brain is that the dialogue often contains the word we, and/or the phrase what if. A more sophisticated lizard may even say “let’s-”

Here are some examples:

What if we fail?

What if someone laughs?

We can’t succeed, someone else has already done it better.

What if someone doesn’t like it?

Let’s go to Starbucks!

We should really go out and get something to eat.

We should go to the store.

We need to . . . (fill in the blanks) The objections are endless!

The interesting thing is that it operates as though there are two of you.

I think you get the idea here; the lizard brain is a huge distractor from passion, purpose, focus, and delivery or shipping

as Seth Godin says.

This quote says it all!

“If you are not conscious of all of the different parts of yourself, the part of yourself that is the strongest will win out over the other parts. Its intention will be the one that the personality uses to create its reality.”~Gary Zukav, Seat of the Soul

Seth Godin goes on to say;

“The amygdala isn’t going away. Your lizard brain is here to stay, and your job is to figure out how to quiet it and ignore it.”

As I work with clients these, days it seems the bigger questions for most of us are:

How do I share my genius and connect more with life?

How do I break out and challenge the status quo?

How do I move past the limitations of the past and embrace the fullest expression of my gifts?

How do I honor and love myself without sacrificing myself?. . . and of course this one from Seth Godin . . .

How do I ship?

The short answer is tame your lizard brain!

Now that you know about the lizard brain and it’s game, let’s look at some ways to quiet and ignore it. Here are my top 7 strategies that will allow you to quiet and ignore the lizard brain.

1. Get that awareness always precedes change; Just knowing about the lizard, and how it operates, is the first step in quieting, and ignoring it. Learn to ask yourself who is speaking? If the voice begins with “we should or what if” the lizard is speaking, and your focus is splitting from the actions that will move you closer to what you desire to the distractions that will take you off course.

2. Notice resistance. You can’t do this because . . . this is the inner dialogue with all the reasons why not. The reasons are endless. My friend Sunie suggested saying this; “thanks for sharing, what else have you got?”

3. Notice the type of fear that is showing up and act accordingly. There are different types of fear; Rational fear . . . like being on a dark street and feeling like you need to be alert is very valid. Rational fear can save your life in situations of physical danger. This is the lizard brain at its best. This is what is was designed for! This is when you want the lizard in control.

Irrational fear has a what if energy to it and it’s useless. It is the fear that creates stuckness and immobility. When you are feeling stuck, you are unable to take action that takes you out of the same old, same old. Often these fears are laid down in patterns as a response to a memory of a situation in which you were embarrassed, ridiculed, or otherwise experienced something you interpreted as an insult, or injury.

There’s a big emotional component to this and the goal is to never go to that hurt, or injured place again. It’s all about survival through limitation.

The next type of fear is intellectual fear this fear does not scare you or immobilize you. A certain amount of fear of the unknown or apprehension is to be expected.

4. Take extremely good care of yourself. For you to effectively tame the lizard brain you must be feeling good. Feeling good is a function that is based largely on the choices you are making. Things like getting enough rest, fresh air, sleep, time in nature, exercise, quiet time, celebration, good quality food, all support feeling good. The better you feel the less powerful the lizard is.

5. Ask yourself the following two questions whenever you are considering taking action on your desires; Is the action I am taking, and/or the choice I am making moving me closer to, or further from my desired end result? Is the action I am taking, and/or the choice I am making, loving of myself? If the answer to either of these questions is no, consider not taking the action and reconnecting with yourself and your values.

6. Notice if you are comparing yourself to others and you are coming up short. The lizard brain wants you to play safe and small. It’s interested in maintaining the status quo. It doesn’t like change and making you feel badly about yourself, or less than another has been a highly effective strategy for the lizard. When you are thinking about what you are lacking, you’re not thinking about your creation and gifts. Your job is to get that you have value, and that value is no less than any other person or thing that exists on the planet. Value is an inside job, and it starts with you choosing to value yourself.

7. Notice your energy; are you expanded or constricted? Constriction is a function of the lizard brain, expansion is a function of the higher mind, the neocortex. The neocortex is involved in higher functions such as sensory perception, language, generation of motor commands, spatial reasoning, and conscious thought. If your energy is constricted, move, change positions, ask yourself what the story is that you are telling yourself. If you find you have been hi-jacked by the lizard . . . choose to escape!

While these top seven strategies may seem simple and obvious; implementation of them can be a bit tricky. You have to start somewhere though, and if you can implement one of these strategies a week, you can make great headway towards the goals of taming your lizard.

There are many things that can take you off purpose and away from your focus; only to find that a whole day’s gone by and you don’t know where it went, what you did, or why you didn’t achieve the things you had intended. Here are 10 inspiration busters and some ideas of how to deal with them. There are of course many more, and clearing these out will create lots of space for inspiration.

1. Too Busy- If you are like most of us you have been living in do do land for a long time! You see we get our sense of self and our value from doing and doing is rewarded in our culture. Much of doing is unnecessary and the Paredo principle states that 80% of the effect is caused by 20% of the action. So if this is true . . . why not stop doing the 80% that is not creating results? Use my signature process; Body as a Compass ™ to identify the things you can let go of.

http://www.karenvizer.com/audio/5-3-09.mp3

2. Too overwhelmed- Living in do do land creates overwhelm. This is something that is modeled in our culture. You might even think it’s cool to be overwhelmed. After all overwhelm is part of who we all are at one time or another in our lives. Ask yourself is this the story I am telling? Am I identified with being overwhelmed? The new story is there’s enough time for everything I value and overwhelm is a distant memory.

3. Too Confused- Confusion is a state of being we use to keep us safe. If you’re confused you can delay decision making and weigh the pros and cons. You have a reason to stay in indecision. It’s difficult to recognize inspiration when you’re confused. Learn to choose consciously- no choice is a choice! Perhaps my e-course on How to Choose Consciously would be the perfect prescription for you if you are living in confusion.

http://www.karenvizer.com/products/

4. Too tired- Running on the hamster wheel can be exhausting and holding on to all the things you think you need to do zaps your life force and decreases your band width. Begin noticing your energy. Are you fueling yourself with adrenalin or with passion? Hint is what you are embracing and taking action on a push or a pull? If you are pushing it’s likely to be adrenal and that’s exhausting. Look for the things that pull you forward instead and let go where you’re needing to push.

5. Too many choices- Much of our programming and conditioning is geared to keep us doing and running on that treadmill. The story goes there’s one more thing I need to do before I can . . . . What if you are whole, complete, and perfect and nothing more is needed? Internet marketers often use psychology to get you to buy one more program, system, training that will . . . fill in the blanks! Before buying use your body as a compass and notice if this is something you really need or just another way to stay in sameness.

6. Too many incompletions- Incompletions take lots of life force or energy. They can be in a number of different areas of your life; projects you have started and not finished, relationships without closure, tolerations or the things you are putting up with around you, tax returns that are overdue, clutter. Make a decision today to start completing the incompletions. Just pick one and handle it. Then choose another. When these are no longer taking your life force your inspiration will increase dramatically!

7. Too little structure- Often those of us who have gone from having jobs to being self employed have difficulty in the unstructured environment of self employment. By scheduling specific activities daily you capture time that may have been wasted if not scheduled. Be focused with this. I am not suggesting you fill in every hour of every day with something to do but I am suggesting that you allow time for the things that allow you to be the best you can be.

8. Too little self care- Most of us spend so much time focused outward that we forget about us and forget to focus inward. Self care must be scheduled and your commitments to you must be honored. Often inspiration comes to me when I am in the midst of self care.

9. Too many competing forces- Focus splitters are things that creep into your mind that you need to handle and take you off course. Create a do it, do it later maybe, delegate it, dump it list and park those distractions in one of those categories so it’s not taking your attention.

10. Too little clarity about what you really want- What do you really want and why? Who is it for? Are you chasing a dream that’s yours? Are you consistantly taking action that moves you towards what you desire? Begin making a list of 100 things you wish to do, have, be, or experience before leaving the planet. When you get to 100 add 20 more and keep going. Having trouble thinking about this or feeling like you deserve something for yourself? Book a Consciousness Shifting session with me and we can change that in a heartbeat!

There’s a lot of fear these days that is a direct result of the losses people have experienced with this “economy” and the changes we are experiencing as we live our lives. I recently became curious and wondered if there were people and businesses doing well during this “recession” or “economic downturn.” I wondered too if the media was correct in the doom and gloom assessments that we were and are being pummeled with.

Before beginning, I want to preface what I am about to share with the acknowledgement that many have suffered enormous losses during the last year or so. The focus of this note is not about loss and suffering. It’s about the good that is happening and the mindset that goes with a different outcome.

It felt important to share something extraordinary that I have observed since asking the question. As I contemplated the idea of recession and looked at it through the lense of law of attraction, I discovered something very interesting. There are many business owners out there who are thriving and may be having their best year ever in their businesses!

It all started at a popular Italian restaurant here in the desert. I was there one night about 2 months ago with my friend Linda. We arrived about 6:30 and managed to get the last table in the bar. (You see we did not have reservations and we were both operating under the assumption that it was early enough and the economy bad enough that this was not a problem.)

Well, we were quite surprised because this place was mobbed and there were often 20 people waiting in the entry way for their tables. I had an opportunity to ask the owner if he had been effected by the recession and he proudly announced “there is no recession at my restaurant!”

Being the curious person that I am caused me to probe deeper. One of the metrics restaurants use is the dollars per person a customer spends. So I asked him if he had noticed a decrease in this number. He replied that he hadn’t and looked at me as if I was asking the same question again. The liveliness of the restaurant was remarkable too! Here were all these amazingly happy people enjoying each other’s company, listening to music and spending money.

I coach a couple of restaurant owners with exceptional and wonderful restaurants, exquisite food and they are having a different experience. Keep reading to learn my view point of why . . .

It wasn’t too long after this experience that I was talking with the person who I use for manicures and pedicures. I thought I would ask her if her client base had decreased or if people were using her services less frequently. She replied that she was completely booked until the end of May when the season in the desert is over and many of the snowbirds return to their summer homes.

Another successful small business owner whose revenue has not been impacted by the economy.

Last week at my Chiropractor’s office, I asked him the same question. He looked at me and said I am having my best year ever; consistently treating 60 patients a day. He went on to say he was so tired he fell asleep on the golf course on his day off.

I know another Chiropractor who’s not having that experience. Are you wondering what the Chiropractor, nail technician and successful restaurant owner have in common? Keep reading . . we’re getting there!

A former client and caterer acknowledged that while revenues were down in her gourmet store her catering revenues were up and way up! She has now been discovered by a couple of the area’s celebrities and is preparing lots of food for them.

Once again an interesting conversation because a week after we talked I met a neighbor who has a catering business and told me he was reinventing himself as a landscape gardener because no one was buying catering services anymore.

Another friend owns a shipping business and deals with the post office, UPS, FedEx and other shipping companies. He provides an exceptional level of service with a genuine caring for the people his business serves. He’s been telling me how busy his business is and how the economy is not seeming to have an impact on his revenues. Last week he called to tell me April was a record month for his store.

Interesting, I thought, as at least 3 UPS shipping stores have closed in this area in the last year.

Several coaches I know had record months in April too. And I talk to coaches everyday who are struggling with their income and blame it on the economy.

Time to ask myself and observe what was remarkable about all of these people? The discoveries were simple and it’s usually the simple things that we often forget about.

This lead to the list of the Top 5 Ways to Lose the Recession Mindset

1. Each of the still successful business owners that I talked to demonstrated the amazing quality of bringing their best self to the business. What do I mean by this? They are not absentee owners. They are there present and happily engaging in the business they chose

Are you bringing your best self to your business? As an employee or in any other capacity . . . Choose to be the best you can be and be grateful for the opportunity you are experiencing; after all you chose it! Remember the restaurant owners I coach? They are often not at their restaurants.

2. The business owners doing well were also amazingly good at keeping their focus and attention on what they want; instead of what they fear.

Notice what you are focused on. Is your attention on your desired end result or on something you fear?

3. Delivering the best service and attention to detail was a shared trait among all who were doing well. When I was at the first restaurant I mentioned on another occasion, the owner noticed we were not eating the appetizer we ordered. He came to our table, asked us why, took it away, and came back to tell us we were correct, it was not good and he had ordered something else for us. Are you present, or checked out? What have you delegated that you need to take a look at? Are you multitasking? Would you pay someone what you ask for the products and services you are promoting?

4. None of these people were talking about the recession, economy or how bad things are. Each, while acknowledging that some people are having difficult times, chooses to focus on what they are grateful for and experiencing instead. This is hugely powerful because energy flows where attention goes and if you are focused on how bad everything is you’re right! Time to tell a new story . The one you are going for instead of the one that seems to be real now.

5. The successful business people I have discussed in this note all have a plan. The plan is not about how am I going to cope in times of loss; it’s about how am I going to deliver the best products and services at a good price and be remarkable doing it? These people are on purpose. Do you have a plan? I am amazed at the number of people I talk with during breakthrough or coaching sessions who have not developed a simple plan. How will you know that you have gotten where you are wanting to go with out a plan that defines your goals and benchmarks that are the indicators you’re headed in the right direction?

The Remarkable Business Owners are the successful owners.

Will you be remarkable or forgettable?

One of the signposts of a raise in consciousness is the shift in awareness from being identified with the stories of what’s happened to you; being the victim of others, circumstances, and events, to being the observer of life without taking the events of that life personally.

Eckhart Tolle speaks of this shift in his book A New Earth. He says, “Awakening is a shift in consciousness in which thinking and awareness separate.” He goes on to describe this as a process in which the new state of consciousness gradually flows into and transforms everything we do and becoming fully integrated into our lives.

This shift then moves the process of thought to being a servant of awareness. Tolle defines awareness as “conscious connection with universal intelligence”. Presence is another word that can be used to describe this state, “consciousness without thought”.

I remember about 5 years ago attending a workshop with a fellow who held himself out to be an expert in this area. He enjoyed taking people into a meditative state and during that experience would ask for a show of hands for how many participants reached a state of no thought. He would then say that those who dared show their hands were mistaken because we could not experience a state without thought.

From his viewpoint and level of consciousness this was his truth. That’s true for all of us. Truth is largely governed by our level of consciousness and angle of view. In this example, when this happened I felt less than. I had given my power away to this guy and didn’t realize it. It was more important to me in that moment to be accepted and to agree to his reality. I was measuring my value and my consciousness by an external reference; his approval. Fortunately my reference point is now internal and is not affected by the response or reaction of others to me.

If you think about a particular experience or event in your past, you may see that what it looked like then and how it looks and feels now are a bit different. Sometimes the charge remains and any charge we have, whether it be a judgment about something or someone or a bad feeling from an experience we have had, that charge will forever interfere with our rising vibration and consciousness. Disabling the charge is essential to our personal development and growth.

For each of us raising our vibration and embracing the shift in consciousness from taking things personally to being the observer are both a journey and a choice. We can facilitate or speed up the process by identifying and using Consciousness Shifting™ to eliminate the obstacles to this and the charges from past insults or events, or we can enjoy the journey in slo mo (slow motion). Dr. Joe Vitale say the universe likes speed and so do those of us who have embraced our consciousness shifting process!

I often reflect on the turning points, learning and understandings that have impacted my life in profound ways. I will always be grateful for an insight I gleaned from Thomas Leonard years ago while attending a Coachville conference.

The insight that I took away from that conference is the distinction between possibilities and opportunities. This distinction is important because every day we are bombarded with choices, and options. This distinction profoundly changed forever the way I evaluated the options before me.

Possibility in this context is another word for “coulds”. “Coulds” are the things we have the choice to act on. We can also define “coulds” as ideas. We often have lots of “coulds” and feel that we must do something with them or about them. Thomas Leonard made several observations about “coulds” in his e-class series entitled Absence Of You:

“The word ‘could’ is the past tense of can.”

“A ‘could’ is something you can do but don’t have to do.”

“’Coulds’ are a series of things you could do.”

At that time, my “could list” was getting longer every day. I was living in do-do land and the illusion of what could be. I was dabbling in too many things, and did not seem to have the time for what was important to me. I was lacking focus and attention for those things that were most important to me and I was being distracted by the stories of possibilities. The cost of living in the illusion of possibility was very high.

Opportunity on the other hand is something you are drawn to naturally. There’s passion and purpose and it’s less effort to embrace. When you are embracing true opportunities there is an ease and flow that is a natural evolution to this process.

I began living and choosing from a perspective of making the distinction between possibility and opportunity. Things fell off my to-do list and life became less complex and complicated.

Further refinements to the process came later, as I reordered my “to do” list in the following categories:

Do it (because it moves you closer to your desired end result)

Do it later maybe (this is the collection place for ideas you don’t want to forget and are not ready to dump. This list provides a way for you to remember so you do not have to commit brain power to this activity).

Delegate it (We all do some things well and other things not so well. Delegating is a great way to get things done that is not your strong suit and free time up for the things that are your strengths.)

Dump it (This is where all those coulds, possibilities and stories about should have go!)

Now I routinely ask myself the following two questions on a regular basis:

Is this a possibility or an opportunity? As Thomas had said in the Absence Of You program, “There’s a wide gap between potential "(possibility)"and reality and it takes time/energy/investment to convert potential into reality.” Opportunities in contrast are based in reality. Much of the time, energy and investment have already occurred. We have 3 sources of power in our lives, our time, our money and our energy or life force. If we use these power sources in pursuit of possibility instead of focusing them on opportunity, it’s like swimming against the current.

The second question I like to ask myself is the following one:

Is this choice moving me closer to or further away from my desired end result? Every choice we make moves us closer to or further from what we desire. What will you choose?

With love and gratitude,
Karen
